12 YEARS OF FREIGHT HOUSE FITNESS: An Interview With Co-owners Bre & Brandon

Freight House Fitness celebrated our 12th anniversary in April. Here, co-owners Bre and Brandon reflect on our beginnings to when they took over in 2020 to now — and share what’s coming next. Read the full interview below and try FHF for 21 days for $21!

Let’s go back — Bre, you’ve been with FHF since 2014, and Brandon, you joined as a trainer in 2018. What was the vibe then? What made you want to join/stick with FHF?

Bre: The vibe back then was really gritty! Broken weights, pieced-together aesthetics, and part of that I loved! In a world where everything was perfect, I was drawn to the roughness of the gym — good workouts, good people. I came because I felt athletic, but I ended up staying because they asked if I would teach a First Friday yoga class (that we still do), and I said yes! After that, I just taught yoga and then came on full time in 2018.

Brandon: I was actually here modeling at an event, and the old owner approached me about bringing my energy and expertise to FHF in 2018! When I arrived to the gym, the vibe when I came in 2018 was very much so a community of like-minded friends and the same type of person. I saw the workouts were more so bodybuilder-type workouts, but with my background, I knew I could switch bodybuilder to complete athlete and bring more CULTURE to a space — it was much needed!

Why did you decide to co-own FHF in 2020? What was your vision?

Bre: We saw an opportunity to save the gym, truthfully. It would’ve closed had we not taken it over. It was in a pretty rough spot financially, so there was a lot of work to be done to get it running smoothly and make the repairs and changes we wanted to make. We knew we made a good team — we were already running the gym, essentially! It’s been the most fun and fulfilling job!

How has FHF evolved over the years?

Bre: We strive to create a community where everyone can feel welcome and feel like an athlete. We truly believe that no matter age/stage, you can get started here and become an incredible lifter and stay functional for life.

Brandon: We know that it’s not many places where EVERYONE can go and get their cups filled physically, spiritually and mentally! I felt for years that some places I’d go I wasn’t welcomed or was judged by appearance. So, we took it into our own hands to make a space where everyone that walks in is loved, appreciated and understands the grind will never judge you! And catching a fire vibe is real easy around here now!

What are you most proud of?

Bre: From my standpoint, I am most proud of creating an affordable gym for ALL.

Brandon: I am most proud of creating a community where you can go and not know one person and still leave with a lifelong best friend, business partner or possibly the love of your life.

What are your goals for the future of FHF (think 1 year, 5 year, 10 years)?

Bre: Two more locations coming soon!

Brandon: Two locations on the way to serve more of our city! And grow this beautiful community!

What else do you want people to know about the gym/you as co-owners and trainers?

Bre: I hope people know that we love our jobs and genuinely care about every single person that comes here. This small business creates jobs within our community and GOOD within our city. We are a drama-free gym.

Brandon: We are regular people trying to make major change where we can and see fit. And love every one of our members; when you come here, you are family right away! If you’re looking for a space to start and continue your fitness journey for life, then stop looking!
